29 Nov 2009 | : Marketplace

Tom Wilson, the cartoonist of the popular Ziggy comic strip, lost his beloved wife to breast cancer several years ago and has written a very touching, inspirational book about his journey.

Until 01/19/10, Mr. Wilson is donating 100% of his personal royalties to the LIVESTRONG foundation. I have included the link so you can read more about the beautiful effort he is making to help heal others. Thank you for the work you are doing to help heal those in need. I am very thankful for the kind hearts who are making a difference in this world.

Meg’s Story

20 Nov 2009 | : Inspiring Angels

Meg, 28,

Meg was just a few months pregnant when she was diagnosed. She gave birth to a beautiful baby boy weighing 2′13″. She could have aborted the pregnancy to begin treatments but she decided not to; she wanted so much to be a mother. She gave her son life, but lost hers. She got to be a mommy for 6 months. I did promise her that I would be sure her little boy would know who his mommy was and I am doing that. Amazingly, he is a lot like her.

Jude’s Story

10 Nov 2009 | : Inspiring Angels

Hello,
My beautiful Mom is in the hospital as I write this. Diagnosed with Non-small cell Adenocarcinoma LC in May 07, Stage IV, she has fought hard for 2 years & 6 months. Lesions were found on her spine and pelvic bone in Jan 09. Multiple brain mets were found in her brain in July 09. Suddenly in Sept 09 she was no longer mentally with us. The Dr.’s don’t know if it was a chemical imbalance from heavy pain meds or lingering tumors putting pressure on nerves in the brain. Either way, my mom is no longer here with me. Myself and her two sisters care for her at home, but over the past 2 weeks we felt it was necessary that she be admitted to the hospital because of her lack of ability to care for herself.

Marcia’s Story

09 Nov 2009 | : Inspiring Angels

I was 54. A vegetarian, a runner, an office worker, a wife, mom, grandma, sister, and daughter. I was having my occasional stiff neck, caused by a bad disc or something. A minor inconvenience, no biggie. It got worse and I sought out a doctor. His suggestion was to take an Xray of my cervical spine to check on the alignment of the discs and vertebrae. Soon the office called and said I should call for the Xray results. The pain had resolved, and I had stuff to do, so I did not call. Within 2 weeks I got another call from the doctor on a Friday. “Your neck should be fine.” I said it already was. He said “But you have a 5cm mass in your left lung, way up by the collarbone. You need to have a CT scan.” This was about 3 weeks before Christmas, and I was still mourning the death of a dear friend, she was 53 years old and had died of Lung Cancer the previous summer.

Dan’s Story

07 Nov 2009 | : Inspiring Angels

My name is Dan Kutrick I’m 32 living in Maryland and have never smoked a day of my life. I was born with a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis. Cf is basically a disease that excretes thick mucus into the lungs and digestive system. In the lungs it traps all kinds of lovely bacteria like bacterial Pseudomonas, Berk holders Cipecia , and Aspergillus Fungus among the many. I did well until I was about 21 then I started with lung infection after lung infection. With every infection I got scaring in my lungs that hampered my pulmonary function sending me further into failure. On August 28th 2007 I threw two pulmonary embolisms into my right lung which happened to be my worst off. I was admitted into the hospital on 80% high flow oxygen multiple IV antibiotics and coughing up a kidney basin full of gray mucus every two hours. I was finally placed on the Transplant list September 4th 2007.

Mary Delise’s Story

05 Nov 2009 | : Inspiring Angels

The Tinsley Children
My mom, Mary Delise, was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer the week before Christmas 2008. She was 66 and had been smoking since her early teenage years. We begged her for years to stop smoking, but as everyone knows, this is an addiction that is tough to overcome. My mom was a very strong woman. She had to overcome many things in her life and she had to live with another disease, that while not life threatening, was very painful. Smoking seemed to be the only thing she had difficulty overcoming.
